Apparently, Richard is undertaking a 5 month charity weight-loss for the Elephant Asia Rescue and Survival Foundation (‘EARS’ – cute) and his first weigh-in will of course be marked by a huge party at Drop on Saturday February 12th. In the immortal words of Salt’n’Pepa’s controversial 1991 smash, let’s talk about sex baby. Or rather, let’s have a look at what 8 up-and-coming young Hong Kong artists have to say about it. For their Valentine’s Day exhibition, Voxfire Gallery is presenting “Heat – an exploration of sex in relationships”, where paintings, photos and installations (!) try to get us to explore what sex means to us today. Part of the sale proceeds for their works will be donated to the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation, so if you head down hoping for a glimpse of something naughty, you can tell yourself it’s really for a good cause.

Always My Child – Director Kit Hung takes a brave look at the complexities of homosexuality and coming out in Chinese families with this documentary which charts the dialogue between three mothers and their gay children. Each child has had to face a different aspect of the subtle homophobia in Asia today, and we see their courageous stories of learning to be proud of who they are. The film is organized by the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong and each screening will be followed by discussion group with a guest speaker.
