STUPID CUPID

Word: Richard Smith & The Readers

Stupid Cupid you’re a real mean guy
I’d like to clip your wings so you can’t fly
I am in love and it’s a crying shame
And I know that you’re the one to blame
Hey hey set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me!

- lyrics by Neil Sedaka

Brilliant – another year another lonely Valentine’s Day, time’s running out to find a date or should we just ignore the whole thing and pretend it’s not happening. Pretty difficult with all the television coverage, perfume and chocolate advertisements, Special Valentine’s Day menus at restaurants, the boost in price of flowers…!

Well folks unless I get lucky I will be looking for an alternative way to celebrate Valentine’s Day but looking back I can hardly remember any of them anyway – maybe every year I just drink myself in to a stupor to forget about the whole thing, actually thinking about it I might have celebrated one Valentine’s Day with alcohol poisoning…ooohhhh the memories!

I scoured Hong Kong and abroad to see what our readers consider either their most memorable Valentine’s Day or alternatively what they would consider to be their ideal way to spend their Valentine’s Day and what an eclectic bunch of replies I received…

I once gave a partner a Valentine’s cake – he promptly shoved his hard cock into it and made me lick it clean…not what I had in mind at the time but went with the flow!

Last year on Valentines Day I worked at a fundraiser for the HK Cancer Fund. I generally don’t pay much attention to the date but being single at the time meant I had a decent and admirable distraction. It didn’t stop me however from going out afterwards with my other single friends in a last ditch effort to find a Valentine. As it turned out, my good deed earlier in the evening paid off!

My idea of Valentines Day is very simple: First starting with a glass of champagne, followed with lobster for dinner, then a warm bath or shower together and more champagne…followed by hours & hours hot sex and finally a double chocolate ice-cream, can you ask for more :-)

Valentine’s Day hasn’t been anything special for me accept when I was a hustler and got an extra tip to celebrate the Saint of Love!

Camping with your partner on the beach, set up a fire under the starry sky, drinking champagne and watching the sunrise together next morning….. maybe you wait for some surprise at that moment :)

A great Valentines Day would be doing something adventurous together with my bf – like a bungee jump from a harbour bridge.

I’m a bit of a cynic about about V day, which has been overly commercialised and over priced. I prefer making a little lovely dinner at home and invite a few friends over, couple or not, so all the single ladies don’t get left out. After all, it’s a day all about love.

My most memorable Val’s day was in 2008, and that was my first time dating someone, and my only Valentine celebration so far! He gave me a bouquet of flowers, and no one had ever done that to me before. We went for an evening date in Clark Quay, and the ambiance was perfect, it was a bit drizzling which made the day more romantic. I remembered there were lots of smiles between us, and what made it special was when he said “I love u”! I went aww awww during that time, unfortunately I think those magic words are nothing but just words! LOL. Valentine’s isn’t perfect without sex in my opinion (oops sounds naughty!), during that time I had the most passionate sex with him as there were lots of candles around and it aroused me more than usual! :S

I’m not really into Valentine’s, I very rarely get their names let alone go on a date with anyone! I think my ideal Valentines would be either spent alone in front of the television with a family size pack of revels and a cup of tea watching Vicar of Dibley, or in a prison cell being gang raped by a group of black convicts! It’s hard to decide.

My best Valentines wasn’t with a lover… it was spent with my good friend Samantha in HK, we went to one of those set Valentine’s dinner things, pretended to be a couple, got drunk and had our picture taken etc… I can’t remember if we just talked about it or if I actually did pretend to propose to her… any case it was hilarious fun. Especially since the people at the other tables were wondering how she didn’t realise her BF was gay! Hehe!

I am not a Valentine’s day person, I usually rather stay home and cook and spend the night in, save money and be cozy….

This was many, many years ago. I was living in Reno Nevada and I was in my first “romantic” relationship (I knew his last name). I remember we went out to dinner at this wonderful expensive restaurant along the river and held hands over dinner and looked into each others eyes. He had the most beautiful eyes. A colleague of mine was a table across from us with his straight date and we exchanged smiles and then we both went back to our loves.

I can say what I would consider to be the most ideal Valentines Day, is a date with someone special to places you’ve been to before that you have sentimental memories about. Or an evening of a nice dinner with a gift exchange of something sentimental. Its not about buying the most lavish gift, I’d be content if I got something from a trip once taken, for like a first date or so…

errrr rub it in that I have no bf!!! ummm i’ve only ever had one V day with a bf and that was with XXX. We just went to the cinema and I remember my friend Emma was also dating a boy and had also set up a cinema date with her man. She told me they had planned to watch the same movie as us and for some reason I was so on edge that they were in the same movie theatre cuz i wanted some “alone” time…. anyways that’s a lame comment cuz i don’t ever celebrate V day :( sob! Ideal V day? hmmmm that I actually have a boyfriend that cares enough to do something special – on second thought anything simple – things like a home cooked meal and a good shag will do! ;)

- Avey, Sydney

Don’t really celebrate Valentines day, so can’t think of anything that memorable! But if I was to have an ideal Valentine Day, it would spending time with my partner, having a fabulous dinner with lotsa wine and then, of course, having lots of sex afterwards! ;-) The boring obvious answer!

- Jewell Chua, HK

To surprise my BF (who I already told I couldn’t meet that night), I broke into his apartment through a window, put flower petals in a trail from the front door, had put candles all in his bedroom and got naked and tied myself up to his bed … unfortunately his flatmate and her BF came home before he did! It was sooo embarrassing, cause she knocked on his bedroom door and called out (cause he told her he would be out for a drink until much later so she and her BF could have the apartmentt for themselves) and I was frantically using my teeth to undo a knot at my wrist when she opened the door! It was VERY VERY embarrassing…

A dinner with my special person in a closed park, filled with candles, a bottle of champagne and my favorite foods!
