What’s the advantage of getting bald? I suppose with a receding hairline there is an equally receding need for hair product and visits to the salon, so you can save money! But on the other hand, the extra cost for hats to protect the head from either sunshine or the chill of winter might even out the pros and cons. Some would say bald-headed guys are sexier, well, I guess what they mean are Caucasian male actors with muscular bodies – it’s all personal taste I suppose. But when baldness occurs on Asians, for me, it’s totally different, I don’t see too many sexy Asians with a bald-head.

So, what is bad about being bald-headed? Actually, I don’t really think there is anything that bad about being bald though some people might consider it a sign of aging…but everyone has their preferences, some like a mature man and others consider a head of hair more youthful and fear for their own hair loss.

Many people think that hair loss is part of the natural process and there’s nothing we can do to stop hair loss! If you have already suffered hair loss by your 40s or 50s then the only option is to look at the more severe option of hair transplants (which can be rather painful) because if you have lost a lot of hair already have little chance of growing it back. Personally I don’t mind bald heads but the degenerative process from a full head of hair to bald seems long and embarrassing (especially for those people who think the ‘comb over’ an effective cover up!).

The most common process of hair loss is finding that your hair has started receding from its original hairline, followed by increased receding from the front and then also the crown, the frontal and vertex balding areas merge into one and increase in size resulting in the last stage where the hair is all lost along the front hairline and crown.

The cause of hair loss is no longer secret, according to the experts, Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL) is the most common form of hair loss, and is likely to be from heritance. Men with male pattern hair loss have elevated levels of DHT in their balding scalps. The level of DHT is believed to contribute to the progressive shrinking of hair follicles and the decrease in the number of visible hairs. MPHL affects about 50% of men by the age 50; it can begin in your teens, 20s or 30s.

Today, we can use medication and shampoo to help hair growth, but these do not focus on DHT. Produced in the US, Propecia is the only one registered in the US FDA and HK Dept of Health, it’s an oral drug which can cure hair loss. Propecia can reduce the level of DHT and possibly see regrowth of some of the hair that has been lost.

Same as skin care, hair care is more effective the earlier you start. Even if you are just in your 20s or 30s, if you realize your hair line is receding, then maybe this is the time for you to start taking action to ensure that you can enjoy a long life with a glorious mane of hair – like a lions growl!!!!!
