Fofo by El Willy is a quirky modern venue with authentic and contemporary Spanish cuisine designed by award winning Catalonian chef Willy Trullas Moreno famed for his restaurant ‘el Willy’ in Shanghai. Chef, Alex Martinez Fargas, heads the enthusiastic team and can be regularly seen at diners tables checking that they are completely happy with Fofo’s dining experience.

STYLE

Funky, fun and clean. ‘Fofo’ means full belly, in a sated kinda way and to enhance this there are numerous cute and comical fat bellied animals adoring the mostly white decoration. The venue is on the top floor with stunning views of both lush green mountains and also cityscape with the buzzing background noise of LKF waaaaaay below.

AMBIENCE

Chic yet fun the venue offers dining spaces at both end of the restaurant with a bar area situated on the middle. Take the stair up to the decked roof terrace and you know you’ve found the best outdoor space for cocktail swilling whilst taking in the views and lapping up the atmosphere. This restaurant is already a-buzz with diners and you’ll be lucky to get a table without reservations.

CUISINE

I love the way that the restaurant respects the country in which it resides. The food allows for small dishes to large which are welcomed to be shared. The place settings include chopsticks – when in Hong Kong, do as the Hong Kongers do – and why not! But the food – OMG – amazing! The dishes are passionately created but without being overly complicated letting the natural flavours shine through. We tried the Mixed Iberian Coldcuts from Joselito with toasted tomato bread – all premium cuts, the spicy Iberico blood sausage was dee-lish with a kick of spice. The Scallop Ceviche served on pureed avocado and topped with crispy shallots was clean and fresh with a comforting smooth texture. Other dishes we tried were the Sautéed Shrimps with garic & chilli, Crispy Suckling Pig with Spanish style potatoes & a garlic, chilli emulsion and Black truffle & pumkin creamy rice.

BOOZE

The long bar offers a great space for those wanting to enjoy great cocktail from trickster/barman Vincent (do ask him to show you a few of his magic tricks!). He has worked in numerous top-notch establishments and knows how to serve a mean beverage. When we dined they were waiting on their liquor licence which they will have by the time you read this!

SERVICE

Service was knowledgeable, effective and respectively non-intrusive.

Tapas dishes: $45-230

Salads & Vegetables: $65-155

Egg dishes: $98-198

Rice dishes: $120-285 (half and full portions served)

Dessert: $35-70

BEST DISH

Organic Eggs Cooked at 65 degrees with Chorizo, potatoes and onions. This was the surprise dish of the evening for me. The thin strips of fried potato made the perfect ‘next’ for the eggs and the simplicity of the dish was elevated by the rich flavours of the ingredients.

BEST TIPPLE

Just ask Vincent! beginning. So give your skin the treat it deserves and do as Oprah says – get a facial done.
