SIMPLICITY – CREPES + WINE
Word: Richard Smith
The new kid on the block SIMPLICITY– brought to us by the creators of FINDS restaurant – offers a smart, slick and all new form of casual dining offering a great wine selection (well it will be once the license is passed through very soon) and a fantastic comfort food offering with a touch of class. Their crepes offer a better snack alternative to kebabs and hot dogs! Executive Chef of FINDS, Jaako Sorsa, has taken this challenge by the horns and created a menu of classic and alternative crepes plus some additional offerings that have a distinct Jaako flair!
WHERE
Situated on the popular central location of Wyndham Street on the ground floor. From Central MTR just walk up through Lan Kwai Fong and take the stairs up from next to The Cavern and turn right on Wyndham street level and Simplicity is there on your right.
STYLE
As befitting the clean and crisp style of it’s big sister, FINDS, SIMPLICITY has a homely urban chic look to it designed by my personal favourite designer Elaine Jamieson. The space has been used wisely and you are never left claustrophobic with windows all around and the best spot being the view down on Lan Kwai Fong. Olive and khaki have been used to add a depth of colour to the venue without spoiling the clean lines. There’s limited but comfy seating as this is a takeway or snack-in kinda place.
AMBIENCE
Casually classy – seeing as SIMPLICITY is open for breakfast from 9am until the wee hours of 5-6am you can imagine that the ambience will change according to the clientele or, more specifically, the states in which the clientele are in! You can be assured that this prime location is a perfect people watching spot.
CUISINE
This is great value, fab homemade comfort food of quality. It’s not fine dining and proudly claims not to be! In the morning you can try one of their five breakfast crepes, after breakfast you can delve into the main menu that offers traditional sweet and savoury crepes and some great signature crepes like The Hungry Chicken (grilled chicken breast, zucchini, bell peppers, rocket & house cheese sauce) or Apple & Almond (apple compote, caramel, whipped cream & toasted almonds). If you don’t fancy a whole lotta crepe (pun intended) then there’s more! Original Pressed Sour Dough Toasts with a selection of fillings and a Meat N’Potatoes section on the menu offering potato wedges, meatballs and such.
BOOZE (waiting for license)
As mentioned earlier – SIMPLICITY is waiting for it’s alcohol license (shouldn’t be long!). Once they have their license there will be a large array of carefully selected wines by the glass to cater to all those oenophiles or wannabe oenophiles.
SERVICE
The menus have been designed so that the team can swiftly serve your desired food and drinks perfectly with time in mind and knowing the manager, Kaisla Lehmussaari, personally, I can assure you that you will be looked after very well – with a touch of sarcastic charm! (Bless her!).
