Ok, it goes something like this. Ash formed in Northern Ireland in 1992. Then in 2007 they released Twilight of the Innocents and promptly announced that it would be their last album, but that they were not about to split up. Ash it seems, aware of the massive changes happening in the music industry and the changing ways people were interacting with the music, wanted to mix things up. They announced that they would never again release a full length album, but only singles and accompanying compilations and that they planned to release 26 singles and since the start of 2009 they have released 13, all of which appear on this new compilation A-Z Vol. 1. At the same they commenced a tour of 26 towns, each starting with a different letter in the alphabet. All of this makes them sound quite mad and utterly innovative. And, as each of the songs here is a single, each one has its own full-blown reality, so there isn’t a dull moment within this intriguing compilation.
