In the mid-90s, brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey recruited Skye Edwards as vocalist and formed the band Morcheeba. The band’s trip hop influenced music relied heavily on the delectable, silky soul vocals of Edwards. After four albums the brothers fired Edwards citing ‘musical differences’, marking the end of their partnership and a period in which the band dropped out of the news, even though they kept releasing records. After seven years, their differences apparently patched up, Edwards has rejoined her former band mates and the result of this reunion is new album: Blood Like Lemonade. With Edwards’ beautiful vocal stylings back at the helm, Morcheeba return with purpose. For me it’s all about Skye Edwards vocals, with Morchheba’s music providing the appropriate vehicle to deliver her sweet sound to an appreciative world. Another worthy album to curl up with this month.playlist isn’t as grown-up as some of its predecessors, but that’s the point. We all remember our teenage days, seems in 2010 they sound a bit like this.
