Timbaland – Shock Value 2 ***

After the success of the first shock Value, one had to wonder if the funky man could pull it off again with Shock Value 2. Happily he does. Once again the entire album is a crazy mix of collaborations. The first half of the CD is a feast of up and comers in the mix, such as Miley Cyrus and Lilly Allen and is very youthful and targeted to a young American audience. The man’s clever after all. It’s the second half of the album that contains the magic, starting with first single Morning After Dark featuring regular posse Timberlake and Furtado. From this midway point the listener is soon in for a treat of blistering dance cuts Ease off the Liquor, cool hip hop Timothy Where You been, sexy 70s Can You Feel It and poptastic peach march Marchin On. Timbaland knows a funky rhythm when he hears one and his understanding of popular tastes makes his choice of collaborators a rather cunning arrow in his bow. Although this album is one in two parts, the grown-up parts’ second half is top notch entertainment.
