Between the end of 1980 and the start of 1983, U2 released their first three albums, Boy, October and War and established themselves as a force in rock. In 1987 they released The Joshua Tree which sold more than 25 million copies and turned U2 into “the greatest band in the world”, a title they are yet to relinquish. But between these periods there was another album, a stepping stone of sorts. In 1984 the band released The Unforgettable Fire, a masterpiece of reinvention, the sound of a rock band pushing the limits and moving into an experimental mindset, which would come to define their career. Many of the songs are classics, such as Pride (In the Name of Love) and Bad. To celebrate 25 years this box set provides stunning packaging containing beautiful black and white images and track notes from band and producers, the fully remastered original album, a DVD of the album’s videos and lots of other footage of the day and a 16 track bonus disc featuring fully remastered original B sides, previously unreleased music and remixes and is awesome.
